eyewitness news in high definition. >>> breaking news in oakland four people have been shot all within a couple blocks of one another. cbs 5 reporter christin ayers is there. chris christin. >> that's correct we have a massive scene out here along sixth street. a long scene. you can see multiple cruisers. this area encompassing about six blocks where we're being told shootings happened and multiple people involved in the shootings. multiple victims from what we're hearing right now. four people shot. one person according to authorities is in critical condition at this moment. we don't know the conditions of the other four currently. and information just coming in at this moment. i talked to a couple neighbors in this area that heard the gunfire a short time ago before we arrived on scene. they described hearing maybe a dozen shots and coming out and seeing people laying in the street. we're hearing four victim so far in this east oakland neighborhoods. a very large presence in east oakland. no word on whether authorities have been able to track down the shooters. christin ayers cbs 5.

treatment. paul chambers joins us live from high street in oakland. paul, you just got the answer on what caused this hazmat incident. paul? >> reporter: that's correct. it's been about two hours since everybody happened. there is a crew still out there. they are packing up right now. you ke see -- you can see from the chopper, within the last half-hour, the scene has been cleared. we a situation that had fire, paramedics, police on the scene evacuating the building. you can see a hazmat crew was sent out here to the scene and entered the building. the call came in around 10:00 a.m. after fire porkers say a -- workers say a worker found a puddle in the back of the floor. two workers complained of i irritation and coughing. crews worked to identify the mysterious substance while others were isolated. >> there was a small can of pepper spray that had discharged. after it discharges it becomes a liquid. >> reporter: now, two employees were treated and released here on the scene. there were customers inside. however, they were evacuated and didn't come in contact with the pepper spray. now, p

across the bay or look down in san jose, where the crime rates have rocketed off the charts. oakland has twice the number of homicides we have in a city half the size because they were laying off officers. i think the reality of the situation you that you have to have officers on the streets with proactive law enforcement in order to prevent that situation. so i think the fact that we're hiring we owe great honors and kudos to the mayor and the board of supervisors. because otherwise we would be in the same situation and it's terrible what is happening over there, especially in oakland. with reference to other reports i attended a memorial with the chief for officer gelf, who was also killed in the line of duty and interesting, most of the officers there were talking how they were going to retire in the next six months and making the hiring of new officers very important. our officers learned that night that they should have the same weapons so they could share am nation and legislation that resulted from that because the suspect who killed the officer was wearing body armoire. it was a

on oakland road. police say at 3:00 a.m. this morning, they received a 911 call from someone saying a man had been stabbed. they arrived and were told by witnesses that during a party a fight broke out and a man was stabbed once in the stomach. he was rushed to the hospital but died. police are still trying to figure out what the argument was about. >> we don't have any motive for the homicide. but we are actively investigation. we are investigating the incident this morning. >> reporter: police tell us the victim was 30 years old. he's not been identified because they are trying to get in touch with his family. now, we were told that by -- by one of the guests that this was a graduation party but that guest wouldn't tell us much more than that. we do know there was about 20 to 30 people in attendance. the homicide unit has been out here on the scene gathering evidence. but police would still like to talk to witnesses who left the scene before they arrived. back out here live, you can see here's -- we're in a business park and the building is right next door where the latest homicide happened

afternoon in oakland. it was one the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city with hundreds of people dropping off their firearms. for each gun turned in, the owner received $200, no questions asked. the oakland police say that this was one of the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city. several hundreds of guns were turned in and many still moved by friday shooting in newtown, connecticut. >> the s f p d received a call around 3:00 a.m. this morning for reports of a home invasion robbery. this incident occurred on the 1600 block of slow boulevard. three suspects into the home and tied up the family robbing them of many belongings. the victims were not injured-that's it is unclear how many fell members live in the home and it is not clear their ages. the three suspects are being described as black male adults that were wearing masks. the s f p d is asking the public for help if they haven't any information that may be useful. >> >> it is 7:15 a.m.. let's talk about the weather. we do have wet weather outside. the rain is coming down. here is
